Read the Bible Together
We believe God speaks through his Word. Each week, we open the Bible in small groups and Bible Talks to see who Jesus is and why he matters.
We run regular events on campus every week – keep up to date with what’s going on.
We’re Newcastle Christian Students (or NCS): a community of students committed to knowing Jesus and making him known. Uni can be exciting but also overwhelming, and we believe Jesus brings clarity, hope, and purpose to it all. That’s why we meet together to read the Bible, encourage one another, and share the good news of Jesus with our campus.

Uni is better when it’s shared. We connect over meals, socials, and everyday life – building friendships that encourage and support each other.
We want the good news of Jesus to be heard across our campus. Through events, conversations, and invitations, we share the hope he offers to everyone.
Our group is led and shaped by students, which means students are at the heart of everything we do. At the same time, we’re supported by long-term, campus-based AFES staff who guide us in reading the Bible, growing in faith, and sharing Jesus on campus. Together, we build up a community of students who lead our mission.
Meet our people
NCS serves and loves the University of Newcastle by hosting events and activities for everyone, regardless of your background of faith. We think the best way to love our campus is to invite everyone to get to know Jesus, who can bring freedom and meaning to everyone’s lives.
NCS loves Jesus, and loves the University of Newcastle, so we have 5 aims that express those loves.
Our group at UoN predates the university! When NCS began, UoN was still called the Newcastle Teacher’s College and NCS went by the name the Evangelical Union (EU). NCS began with a few students who saw the need to help others know the truth about Jesus from the Bible. They wanted to see their peers’ lives changed by knowing him. Over time, NCS has grown into a community of people now who love Jesus and whose lives have been changed by knowing him. Through doing that, they’ve met friends, grown in their faith, and have been taught how to live out their new life in faith. We’d love for you to know more about how NCS has become what it is today.
Our history
Our group is part of AFES, a national community of students discovering Jesus together. All AFES groups across Australia stand on the same biblical foundations, seeking to proclaim Jesus faithfully on every campus. Being part of this wider community means we’re connected to other campus groups, supported by experienced staff, and able to be part of something bigger than our group.
